ABOUT THE PLUNGE
Decades ago, Corpus Christi had a polar bear plunge. Somehow that tradition faded away. Communities around the country and the world gather for a celebratory New Year's Day plunge, and it was time to revive that tradition in Corpus Christi.

The spark came after my dad was diagnosed with ALS in 2011. Since there is no cure yet, one way to address ALS is to focus on positive activity and bringing the community together in understanding and fighting the disease. A Polar Bear Plunge was the natural event to choose. We launched the Corpus Christi Polar Bear Plunge on January 1, 2015 at North Beach. The community embraced it, and it became an annual tradition.

In 11 years, the Corpus Christi Polar Bear Plunge has raised more than $150,000 for ALS research. We lost my dad in 2018. Research has come a long way since then, but there still isn't a cure, so the cause lives on.

Plunge for whatever reason moves you - celebration of life, health, gratitude, fun, renewal, adventure, family, friends, food, and a cure for ALS. Register or donate at this link and you will add to this event's running total contribution. (All contributions to ALS TDI go to the same place, but it's great to put Corpus Christi on the map for our support here.) This is an A-rated nonprofit and you will receive a tax receipt for your donation. ALS TDI operates the world's largest research lab entirely dedicated to finding a treatment or cure for ALS.

Thank you for taking part. See you New Year's Day.
